Palma Bourgoin, 96, formerly of 20 Great Falls Plaza, Auburn, died Sunday, February 22, 2015, at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. Born in Lewiston on March 24, 1918, she was the daughter of Omer and Eva Charron Bourgoin. Educated in Auburn Schools, she was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of ’38. She was employed as a Laster in area shoe shops, and also worked at the Arrow Heart Shirt Company, retiring in her 60’s. She was a dedicated life-long Red Sox fan, and after her retirement volunteered over 22,000 hours at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. …

Alma M. Caux, 95, of 18 Brule Street, Lewiston, died Monday, February 23, 2015, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on July 9, 1919, she was the daughter of Arthur and Alma Croteau Moreau. Educated in local schools, she married Fernand F. Caux on December 27, 1941 at Ss. Peter & Paul Church, and they were happily married for 66 years until his passing on February 13, 2008. She held several different jobs over the years, moving from Shapiro Brothers Shoe to the Youth Center Children’s Store, and finally the Children’s Department of Peck’s Department Store, retiring when they closed in 1981. …

Bertrand O. Berube, 88, of Lewiston, died peacefully on February 25, 2015, at d'Youville Pavilion after a long illness. He was born on December 6, 1926, the son of Joseph and Rose Aime Cote and attended local schools. Bert worked as a handsewer at Belgrade Shoe and Freemont Shoe for many years until he became disabled in 1965.  He is survived by his loving wife, the former Therese Bourgoin. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on August 9.  He also is survived by his 6 daughters: Cecile Dumont and her husband Walter of Lewiston, Doris L'Heureux  of Lewiston, Pauline and husband Joel of Sinclair, Maine; Sue Mercier and husband Don of Lewiston; Diane Baldiga of Lewiston; and Louise Andrews and husband Randy of Sharpes, Florida; and 4 sons: Robert Berube and his wife Debbie of Greene; Paul Berube and Benjamin Saldua of Kailua-Kona , Hawaii; Marc Berube of Litchfield; and Ray Berube and his wife Ann of Auburn, Maine.  …

 John P. Howaniec, 90, of 21 Boston Ave., Lewiston, died peacefully at dawn on Feb. 21, at d’Youville Pavillion, with family by his side. He was born on November 12, 1924, in Lewiston, on a farm without electricity on Gayton Road. His parents, Anthony and Tekla Howaniec, emigrated from Poland in 1914, arriving in Lewiston to work in its textile mills and raise a family. John was one of five children that were raised on the farm in south Lewiston.  He went to school in a one-room schoolhouse.  In 1943, at the age of 18, he was drafted into the United States Army.  …

Rita P. Morin, 96, of 440 Minot Avenue, Auburn, died Friday, February 20, 2015, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. Born in Lewiston on January 29, 1919, she was the daughter of Leon and Eugenie Thibault Pelletier. Educated in local schools, she was employed as a Fancy Stitcher in several area shoe shops, including Clark and Knapp Shoes. On June 15, 1940, she married Alpha E. Morin. Mr. Morin passed away in 1996. Rita loved family gatherings, especially at her daughter Pauline’s camp, and enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling with her husband. A longtime member of Holy Cross Church, Prince of Peace Parish, she is survived by a son, Richard and wife Claire of Lewiston, two daughters, Connie and husband Bob Charest of Lewiston, and Pauline and husband Rene Mathieu of Fayette, a sister, Jean D’Arc and husband Bill Beauchesne of Auburn, nine grandchildren; Paul and John Morin, Gary Charest, Tina Baril, Glenn Charest, Michel and David Mathieu, Steve Biron, and Donna Warren, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. …

Robert William Jones (Bob), 63 of Lewiston, passed away Thursday morning surrounded by his family at home after an unexpected but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lewiston on June 14, 1951, he was the son of Chester and Florence Oldham Jones of Auburn. He attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1969. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, proud hunter, and master mechanic. In 1971, he married the love of his life,Diane Roy of Auburn, his wife of 43 years. They had three daughters. Bob loved his life and the people in it. He always had words of encouragement and lived his life with a laugh. …

Marguerite Argentine Tremblay, 90, formerly of 263 Meadowview Park, Lewiston, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at the Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath. Born on January 1, 1925 in Denain, France, she was the daughter of Giordano and Elisa Cavaletto Pippinato. She lived in France until 1946 when she immigrated to the United States as the wife of Fernand Tremblay.  They raised three children in the Lewiston/Auburn area. Surviving their mother are Francine, the wife of Jean Ouellette of Phippsburg, Maine, Claude Tremblay and his wife Barbara of Greenville, S.C. and Andre Tremblay and his wife Kathryn of Bow, N.H. …

On February 16th, Nancy Lynn Taber, 59, of Auburn, gradually let loose her grip on this life and quietly drifted into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. With the help and care of her dearest friend Linda Jurczak Johnston, along with other amazing friends, Nancy was able to depart this world from the comfortable surroundings of her own home and be, for weeks, in the company of those who loved her most. Born June 15, 1955, the daughter of Edward C. and Janita Cox Taber Jr., she was a loving daughter and supportive sister, doting aunt and fiercely loyal friend. …

Cecile M. Picard, 93, of 100 Campus Avenue, Lewiston, died Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston. Born in Auburn on November 14, 1921, she was the daughter of Lucien and Yvonne Michaud Samson. Educated in Auburn schools, she married Emile Picard in 1947. Mr. Picard passed away in 2004 after 54 years of marriage. She was a hard worker her entire life, starting in local shoe shops, then Value House, Raytheon, and finally  the sewing room and salad prep at CMMC, where she retired. She raised two daughters while working many hours of overtime to help put one through college and the other to buy her first car, finally achieving her own dream of owning her own home. …

Henriette T. Roberge, 90, of 390 Webster Street, Lewiston, died Monday, February 9, 2015, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on August 29, 1924, she was the daughter of Alphonse and Marie-Jeanne Simoneau Roberge. Educated locally, she graduated from Lewiston High School in 1943 with honors from the National Honor Society, and in 1945 she graduated from the Auburn School of Commerce. She was employed for 25 years as the secretary to the Plant Manager of the Hill Division of Bates Mfg. Co. She later worked as executive secretary for the President of Value House, and covered all phases of clerical work with management, including accounting, payroll, real estate and advertising. …
