Romeo E. Poulin, 90, servant of God, husband, and father, passed on at his home in Auburn on February 2, 2016, surrounded by his wife and family. Romeo was born in Lewiston on March 28, 1925, the son of Arestide and Adrienne Bilodeau Poulin, and raised in Lac Megantic, P.Q. Canada. In 1943, after Primary School, Romeo entered the religious community of Cleric St. Viateur in Joliette, P.Q., where he received training in electrical, drafting, and building construction. In 1950 he was assigned to a school and mission in Kyoto, Japan, where he served as construction foreman and vocational teacher. …

William Donald Willett, 1934 - 2016



William Donald Willett, 81, of Poland, ME, died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, January 26, 2016, at Auburn Hospice House.  He was born in Montpelier, VT to the late Erva and Emil Willett, on April 24, 1934.

Jack E. Gray, 1947 - 2016

Jack E. Gray, 68, of 271 Line Road, Leeds, died Friday, January 22, 2016, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Born in Portland on July 10, 1947, he was the son of Elden and Henrietta Girardin Gray. He was employed for many years at the paper mill in Winthrop, and later worked at the Hurricane Deli and the Meadows Nursing Home, where he met and fell involve with his wife, the former Ursula Cedre.  Jack loved to fish, and enjoyed spending time on and around the Winthrop area lakes. Besides his loving wife of Leeds, he is survived by a son, Jack Gray Jr., three daughters, Jessica, Mellisa, and Lori, a brother, Bob, two sisters, Joanne and Betty, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. 


Paul H. Mercier

Paul H. Mercier, 72, of Lewiston, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning at Central Maine Medical Center. Born in Lewiston, he was the son of Henri and Liane Morin Mercier. Educated locally and a graduate of Lewiston High School, Paul was a well known and well respected musician and keyboard player, and was a highly respected salesman for over 40 years. He worked at Maurice Music Mart, Stromboli Enterprises, and Carroll’s Music Center. Paul is survived by the love of his life and wife of 36 years, the former Helena Linda Gallagher of Lewiston, a son, Steven P. Mercier of Lewiston, and a granddaughter, Allyson Dority-Mercier of Peru.

Roger Fernand Caux, 73, of South Mountain Road, Greene, died in his home on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Born in Lewiston on December 30, 1942, he was the son of Fernand and Alma Moreau Caux. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’61, and also of the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. While at Lewiston High, he excelled in sports. He was member of the football, hockey, and baseball teams. In 1959, he was awarded the Normand Dionne Trophy for his football performance. In his junior year at LHS he served as Class President. On September 18, 1965, he married the love of his life, the former Georgette Marcoux. …

Arthur L. Willard, 1924 - 2016

Arthur L. Willard, 91, formerly of 68 Summer Street, Lewiston, died Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston. Born in Everett, MA, on June 3, 1924, he was the son of John and Linnie Robbins Willard. When he was young, his family moved to Stonington, Maine. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army and landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. After the war, he moved to Lewiston and went to work as a hand sewer in the local shoe industry. On April 10, 1948, he married the former Jacqueline Martineau. Mrs. Willard passed away on May 10, 2013, after 65 years of marriage.  …

John P.B. Fortin, 86, of 14 Janelle Street, Lewiston, died peacefully Saturday, January 2, 2016, at his home surrounded by family and friends. Born in Lewiston on November 8, 1929, he was the son of Arthur and Delia Bolduc Fortin. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Edward Little High School, class of ’50. John was a Dad’s Dad; spending all of his free time making sure his family had all they needed. He taught his boys about camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing. He taught them about every sport he knew and always made time to play with them no matter how many hours he was working at his jobs. …

Lorraine C. Roy, 81, formerly of 15 Fairlawn Avenue, Lewiston, died peacefully Friday, January 1, 2016, at the Clover Living Center in Auburn, surrounded by her family. Born in Lewiston on August 24, 1934, she was the daughter of Philippe and Emelia Therrien Pratt. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of St. Dominic High School, Class of ’53. On April 23, 1960, she married Arthur R. Roy. Mr. Roy passed away on February 12, 2000. Prior to her retirement, Lorraine worked for many years in the lunch programs of Holy Family School and Lewiston High School. A member of Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish, and was a member of the Ladies of St. …

Armand J. Hamel, 97, of 89 Hillside Avenue, Auburn, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at the Clover Living Center in Auburn. Born in Lewiston on July 9, 1918, he was the son of George and Alice Gagnon Hamel. Armand was raised and educated Lewiston, along with two sisters and one brother. On July 29, 1939, he married the former Lucienne Bernier. Mrs. Hamel passed away in 2003. He worked as a welder in Portland Shipyards prior to serving in the US Navy during World War II. After the war, he entered the shoe manufacturing industry and trained and worked as  a cutter until his retirement. …

Blanche J. Szott, 1918 - 2015



Blanche J. Szott, 97, formerly of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2015, at the Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris, where she had been a resident for the past several years. Born in Lewiston on February 10, 1918, she was the daughter of Michael and Tekla Krason Szott. Educated locally, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’36, and also attended the Richard School of Gregg Shorthand. She was employed as a stenographer in the Marketing and Sales Department of the Maine Central Railroad, subsequently Guilford Transportation Industries, Portland, for nearly thirty years. …
