A memorial service for Anne Libbey Meldrum will be held 11 AM on Monday, July 11, 2016, in the Lower Church of the Ss. Peter & Paul Basilica. Fernande A. Vachon, 85, of 100 Campus Avenue, Lewiston, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Born in St. Martin de Roustigouche, N.B., Canada, the daughter of Josepel and Sadie Rancourt Jalbert. She moved to Lewiston at a young age and was educated in local schools. On May 30, 1952 she married Robert A. Vachon. Mr. Vachon passed away on April 21, 1974. Fernande worked at Knapp Shoe for many years. After the death of her husband, she worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for ten years, retiring at age 62. …

David R. Guay Sr., 1940 - 2016

David R. Guay Sr., 75, of Poland, and formerly of Martha’s Vineyard, died at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston on Wednesday, June 15, 2016. A Mason, he was a Past Master of lodges in Martha’s Vineyard, MA, and Wilton, ME. Survivors include his wife, Ruth L. Guay, of Poland, a son, David Jr. of Livermore Falls, a daughter, Beth Pileeki of Norwood, MA, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lucianna Guerrette, 90, of North Port, FL, died peacefully June 13, 2016, at her home with her daughter Elaine and son-in-law Bob by her side. Born in Saint-Ludger, Quebec, on December 16, 1925, she was the daughter of Charles and Josephine Morin Baillargeon. Educated locally, she was a graduate of St. Dominic High School. On April 26, 1947, she married Aurel J. Guerrette. Mr. Guerrette passed away on February 28, 2000. Lucy was formerly a Eucharistic Minister for Holy Family Church, she also was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, Merchant De Bonheur, Jacques Cartier Club, and retired after working 21 years at Marcotte Nursing Home in Central Supply. …

Rita L. (Guerin) Godbout, 78,  passed away peacefully at The Hospice House in Auburn on June 13, 2016 surrounded by her family.  Rita was born June 23, 1937 in Lewiston, ME.  She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1956 and was looking forward to her 60th class reunion this summer.  Rita married the love of her life, Claude Godbout, on May 31, 1958 and was married for 58 years. Rita worked as a bookkeeper, later supporting the family carpeting and upholstery business, but valued her home and family as her greatest career.  She was extremely active with various organizations and charitable events throughout her life, especially with the Auburn schools and St Louis Church.  …

Eugene B. Deslauriers, 90, formerly of 18 Union Street, Sabattus, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the Montello Manor in Lewiston. Born in Lewiston on October 20, 1925, he was the son of Josephat and Yvonne Sylvain Deslauriers. Educated locally, he left high school early in order to enlist in the Navy during World War II serving aboard the minesweeper USS Indicative in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operations. After the war, he returned to Maine and on April 12, 1947, married the former Muriel Scott. He was employed for a while at the Farnsworth Mill in Lisbon, and later went to work as a truck driver for Anthoine Rubber Company in Lewiston. …

J. Paul Hebert, 92, formerly of 45 Loring Avenue, Auburn, died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, where he had been a resident for the past five years. Born in Auburn on June 11, 1923, he was the son of Jean Baptiste and Gabrielle Fournier Hebert. Educated locally, he was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. On June 2, 1947, he married the former Madeleine Perron, and they made their home in Auburn. Mrs. Hebert passed away on June 10, 2005. He worked as an electrical supplies salesman of many years, first for Lewiston Hardware and later for Hall & Knight. …

John M. Joyce, Phd., 58, of 40 Clubhouse Lane, Auburn, died unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Born in Lewiston on April 21, 1958, he was the son of Thomas and Helen Ferguson Joyce. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’76. He received a bachelors of science degree from the University of Maine Orono, and later earned a masters degree, and finally a doctorate in environmental engineering from the Florida State University. On May 5th, 1990, he married the former Darlene Plummer. They moved frequently for work, including years in Biddeford and Winston-Salem, NC. …

Robert A. Billings, 68, of 8 Leeds Street, Lewiston, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 30, 2016. Born in Lewiston on September 8, 1947, the son of Royal and Lillian Goddard Billings. Educated locally, he worked in the food service department of Central Maine Medical Center for over 47 years. He was a devoted husband to his wife, the former Rachel Chaput. Mrs. Billings passed away in December of 2008. Survivors include a daughter, Angela Billings of Corinna, and a brother, Richard Billings of Sabattus.

Rita A. Dubois, 70, of 66 Cassell Street, Lewiston, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, following a long illness. Born in Lewiston on February 11, 1946, she was the daughter of Patrick and Albertine Marquis Dubois. Educated in local schools, she worked for many years at General Electric in Auburn. Rita enjoyed crafts and gardening, loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, including visiting her daughter in California and going with her to Las Vegas. She is survived by her son, Bertrand A. Gosselin and wife Tammy of Lewiston, daughter Denise and husband Jeffrey Stanek of Huntington Beach, CA, a brother, Gerald Dubois and wife Diane of North Turner, two sisters, Irene Salvatore of Hartford, CT, and Patricia and husband Leo Gagnon of Turner, two grandchildren, Kayla and husband Nolan Rioux, and Kyle Gosselin and companion Alisha Majkowski, a great-grandson, Ryder Rioux, and her ex-husband, Bertrand R. …
