Elaine “Bo” McDonough, 87, formerly of Auburn, died on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Clover Manor in Auburn. Born in Greenville on May 22, 1929, she was the daughter of James and Elizabeth White Aucoin. A graduate of Greenville High School, Class of ’47, she received her teacher’s certification from Maine State Teachers College in 1951. On July 3, 1954, she married the love of her life, James M. McDonough, in Greenville. They made their home in Auburn, and she went to work as a teacher in Auburn Schools, retiring in 1990 after 31 years. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed crafts, especially cross stitching. …

Rita B. Thibault, 89, a longtime resident of 36 Cook Street, Auburn, passed away peacefully at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston surrounded by family on Saturday, March 25, 2017.

She was born in Lewiston on June 27, 1927, the daughter of the late Louie and Mary Dumont Bouchard. She was educated in the Lewiston schools, and graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of ’46.

Rita worked in the office of Bell Moc shoe factory prior to starting a family.  Once her children were all in school she returned to work as the bookkeeper and office manager for Dr. Gilman Bouchard, and later for Dr. Roger Bergeron where she retired after many years. …

Christos (Chris) John Gregory Mendros (Χρήστος Μενδράκος) joined his father, John G Mendros M.D, on Thursday, March 23rd, in heaven, surrounded by loved ones, at his home in Waterville.

  Born the son of John Mendros M.D and Florentia (Poulikakos) Mendros on April 29, 1961, he graduated from LHS in 1979. His collegiate journey comprised Boston University, SUNY Purchase, Harvard, USM and Ashford University, culminating with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. His kindness and wisdom touched thousands of fortunate lives.

Claire J. Gagnon, 59, of 49 Third Street, Auburn, died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, following a long illness. Born in Lewiston on October 5, 1957, she was the daughter of Leo and Marietta Ruel Turgeon. Educated in local schools, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School. She worked in offices of Lamey-Wellehan for many years, retiring due to illness in 2010. She loved crafts and had a collection of angels, but her greatest joy came from time spent with her family. A member of Holy Family Church, prince of Peace Parish, she is survived by a son, James and wife Gerry of Auburn, a daughter, Ashley and husband Scott Doughty of Lewiston, two brothers, Paul and wife Barbara Turgeon of Turner,

Roland Brousseau Jr., 1970 - 2017

Roland Brousseau Jr., 46, of Lewiston died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 12. Born on April 18, 1970, in Lewiston to Roland L. Brousseau Sr. and Rita N. Brousseau. He graduated from Lewiston High School. He was an incredible husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was an avid bass fisherman, hunter and Boston Bruins fan. His wife, children, dogs, family and friends meant the world to him. He was very devoted to his work of 23 years at Lee Auto Mall where he mentored and inspired many over the years. He is survived by his wife, Tracey Brousseau of Lewiston; his children, Cameron Brousseau of Auburn and Celina Bruneau of Sabattus; his father, Roland Brousseau Sr. of Lewiston; his sister, Monique Brousseau and wife, Heather Kern, of Lewiston; nieces, nephews and many friends. …

James A. Sands, 76, of 10 Oak Park, Lewiston, died Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Born in Lewiston on January 11, 1941, he was the son of Arthur F. and Emma Rose Carrigan Sands. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Edward Little High School. He was very athletic as a young man, and played basketball and other sports in high school. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force, and then returned to Maine. He worked several different jobs over the years, including manning the bus station ticket counter. Jimmy enjoyed playing cards, pool, and betting on horse racing, and loved all sports, especially basketball, football, and boxing. …

Father Normand E. Carpentier, 71, of 142 Broad Street, Auburn, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Born in Quantico, VA, on April 5, 1945, he was the son of Charles E. and Adrienne Lajoie Carpentier. Educated at Holy Cross and St. Louis grammar schools, he attended high school at the Sherbrooke Seminary in Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada, and received a Master of Divinity Degree from St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, MD. On May 29, 1971, Father Carpentier was ordained by the Most Reverend Edward C. O’Leary at St. Louis Parish in Auburn. …

Eugene N. Stevens, 1924 - 2017


Eugene N. Stevens, 92, of 106 College Street, Lewiston, died Monday, March 13, 2017, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Born in Auburn on September 8, 1924, he was the son of Roy and Florence Burns Stevens. Educated in local schools, he was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he returned to Lewiston and married Theresa Bernier on June 19, 1948.  Terry was Gene’s one and only, not a day went by that Gene did not talk and share memories of her.  They were members of St. Joseph Church. …

Kenneth Moore, 93, of Lewiston, died peacefully following a short bout with cancer on Friday, March 17, 2017, at the Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston. Born in Lewiston on July 4, 1923, he was the son of Marian K. Moore. He was educated in local schools, and was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of ’42. A veteran of Wold War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, and for 4 years saw duty in the Atlantic-European-Mediterranean Theaters of Operation. On October 4, 1950, he married Marie J. Filiault in Auburn. His wife passed away on February 2, 1992, and he was also predeceased by a daughter, Gloria A. Moore, who died on November 24, 1983. …

Robert Perkins Bowen Sr., 1933 - 2017

Robert Perkins Bowen Sr., 83, passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn. Robert was born April 19, 1933 in Lewiston, to William Andrew Bowen Sr. and Verna Perkins Bowen.  He grew up in Durham, Maine and was educated at the Parker School in Durham through the 7th grade. He then went to work with his father in the woods. He married Shirley Louise Goding, the love of his life, on September 28, 1957 at Marstons Corner Church. Robert lived at his home on 255 Harmons Corner Rd., Auburn, for 57 years, with his loving wife Shirley; where they raised four wonderful children, raised farm animals, planted and harvested numerous fruits and vegetables.  …
