Dominick J. Ranucci, 93, formerly of 104 Davis Avenue in Auburn, and a resident of the Woodlands Memory Care Facility in Lewiston for the past year, died at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn on Monday, September 26, 2016. Born in Harlem, NYC on September 12, 1923, he was the son of Italian immigrants Giuseppe and Irena Fiorello Ranucci. Educated in Harlem and Bronx schools, he worked for many years as a draftsman for the Duralab Corporation in Brooklyn, designing laboratory furniture and equipment. In 1948 he married Marie Abbattista and they had a daughter, Irene. …

Rita M. Koss, 68, formerly of Mechanic Falls, died in Lewiston on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the d’Youville Pavilion , where she has been a resident since 2012. Born in Lewiston on March 19, 1948, she was the daughter of Julien A. and Antoinette Dubois Desrosiers. Educated in local schools, she worked for a few years at Hillcrest Farms, and then spent many years working in the cafeteria at Bates College prior to her retirement. On August 11, 1995, she married Leo Koss of Mechanic Falls. Rita enjoyed crochet, puzzles, cooking for her family and friends, visits to Baileys Island, and volunteering at the Good Shepherd’s Food Bank, but her greatest enjoyment came from time spent with her large extended family. …

Pearl M. Coyne, 99, of 276 Gamage Avenue, Auburn, died Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice Services. Born in Auburn on January 2, 1917, she was the daughter of Frank and Albina Normandeau Coyne. She was educated in Auburn schools, and was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of ’35. After graduation, Pearl went to work as a salesperson at the B. Peck Department Store for several years, and then worked in the offices of Shapiro Brothers in Auburn for seventeen years. She then worked in the Lunch Program of the Auburn School Department for seven years before retiring. …

Birgit Svane Libbey, 88, of Lewiston died Wednesday, September 21, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. The daughter of Paul and Ingeborg Svane and sister of Marjorie Svane, she was born in the Bronx, New York, and brought up in Islip, New York.  She attended Bates College, majoring in English Literature, and after graduation worked as a lab technician at a unit of Miller Industries in Lisbon, Maine, and then at Bates Manufacturing in Lewiston. She married Paul Libbey of Lewiston in 1951 and they raised seven children. Birgit worked for a time at the Lewiston Sun-Journal and was also organist of St. …

Gloria A. Levesque, 85, of 14 West Shore Drive, Greene, died Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston. Born in Auburn on May 17, 1931, she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Exilia (Fortier) Goulette. Educated in local schools, she married Henry Levesque on February 14, 1952. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and also worked for numerous years as a fancy stitcher in the local shoe industry.  She was an avid gardener and enjoyed complex puzzles. A member of the former St. Joseph’s Church, Prince of Peace Parish, she is survived by her loving husband, Henry of Greene, three sons, Steven and wife Lisa of Farmingdale, Glenn of Sabattus, and Jeff of Greene, a brother, Marcel Goulette and wife Joni of Turner, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. …

Philip Henry Curless Jr. walked into the arms of his Savior on Saturday morning, September 17 at the age of 83. He passed at his home in Lisbon. Philip was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on February 19, 1933, the son of the late Philip Henry Curless Sr. and Ella (Mason) Curless. Philip went to school in both Maine and Massachusetts, graduating from high school in 1951. He went on and served the United States in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1962. Philip worked at various jobs but for most of his working career he was employed at General Electric in Auburn, Maine retiring in 1993. …

Attorney C. Martin Berman of Naples died September 19, 2016, at his home in Naples after a short illness. He was 87. The death of Attorney Berman marks the end of almost 100 years of service, in Maine, by the Berman family. Attorney Berman’s uncle, Jacob H. Berman, late of Portland, opened the first Berman Law Office in that city in 1909 followed by the opening of the Berman office, in Lewiston by Martin Berman’s Father, Benjamin L. Berman in 1914. Both firms became Berman & Berman when an uncle joined each elder brother. The firms maintained a prominent place in the legal annals of this state. …

Gary Brian Haley, 63, passed peacefully to be with The Lord, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at his home in Auburn, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born March 28, 1953 in Rumford, Maine to Stephen Haley and Ruth Boulter Haley. He lived in Farmington for most of his childhood, then moved to the Lewiston/Auburn area. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1972. He attended Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute and graduated in 1974. He worked at the Lewiston Auburn Water Pollution Control Authority for 32 years. He married his sweetheart, Linda Verna Bowen, on December 5, 1981. …

Roland “Sonny” Desjardins, 80 years young, of Lewiston and Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 5 at the home of his son Eric Desjardins in South Carolina. Roland, affectionately known as “Sonny,” was born to Josephine and Roland Desjardins and raised in Lewiston. In his high school years, he loved dancing and had a wonderful crooner’s voice. At Lewiston High School, he was voted “Best Looking” in his senior class. He proudly joined and served in the Army and after an Honorable discharge went to Portland Junior College, while working at his Uncle Henry’s furrier business. …

Laurette Charest Poulin, 99, of Lewiston passed away peacefully at Montello Manor on Sunday morning, September 11, 2016, with her family by her side. She was born July 17, 1917, in Saint Pascal P.Q., Canada, the daughter of Thomas and Amanda Charest, and moved to Lewiston Junction in Auburn with her family in 1923. She was educated in Canadian and Lewiston-Auburn schools. Laurette married Arthur Poulin at Holy Family Church in Lewiston on September 21, 1940. They were married 54 years until his death on July 8, 1994, and they enjoyed many years at their South Harpswell summer home. …
