Donald R. Castonguay

Life Story

Donald Robert Castonguay, 60, of Lewiston, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2018, after  a year long battle with pancreatic cancer at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Healthcare & Hospice in Auburn, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lewiston on December 11, 1957, the son of Lionel and Jeanette (Ducharme) Castonguay. Don graduated from St. Dominic’s High School, Class of ‘76. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1976, and transitioned to the Maine Army National Guard in 1980. He commissioned as an officer in 1981, graduated flight school at Ft. Rucker AL in 1983, and served as a UH-1H Huey pilot until his retirement in 1999. On April 7,, 1979, he married Debra Simon of Lewiston. His professional life included working at Castonguay and Son and Don’s Remodeling and Repair Service. For the last few years he had been working at L.L. Bean repairing sewing machines. The only thing Don treasured more than flying was his family and friends.  He loved hosting and attending holidays, get-togethers, and sporting events with his children and grandchildren.  Don’s friends and families know him for his sense of humor, dedication to his family, his big heart, and his generous nature.  Don is survived by his wife Debra; his children and their spouses: Douglas and Kristen Castonguay of San Pedro CA; David and Kristen Castonguay of Auburn ME; Dana and Amy Castonguay of Gray; Dayle and Lee Morin of Farmington; his sister Nancy Ouellette; his brother Gerald Castonguay; sister Dianne Keys; brother Michael Castonguay; sister Joan Metayer; and 4 grandchildren: Sylvie, Simon, Gabriel and Everly, whom he cherished. He is predeceased by his parents.
