Douglas Adell

Life Story

Douglas “Doug” Adell, passed away on Nov. 2, 2018, at the age of 58. He was born, July 29, 1960, the son of Wendel “Skip” and Joyce Adell. He was a graduate of Maranacook High School and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing. He married his wife, Susan Higgins on July 1, 1995.

Doug was an exceptional nurse, who showed true compassion and dedicated his career to caring for others. Doug was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He loved the outdoors, taking his family on camping trips, hiking, fishing and kayaking. Doug received a double lung transplant in 2010, giving him many more years with his family and friends. His family will be eternally grateful to his organ donor. On even his hardest days, he kept his witty sense of humor, big heart and his ability to live each day as a gift, which will remain with us always.

Mr. Adell was predeceased by; his father, Wendel “Skip” Adell; beloved sister, Marcia Toto and father in law, Doug Gunn. He is survived by his wife, Sue; mother Joyce Adell of Readfield; sons Brett Adell of Monmouth and Samuel Adell of Lewiston; step-children Corey Brule of Greene and Nicole Kalkman and husband Jake of Grand Haven, MI; brother David Adell of Raymond; Grandchildren Alex, Addy, Jack, Caroline and Mia; mother in law, Nancy Gunn, and father in law William Higgins and his wife Margaret. Doug will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews and in-law family members.

Family and friends may visit on Friday, Nov. 9 from 5PM – 8PM at the Albert Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine St., Lewiston. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11AM at the Grace Lutheran Church, 757 Summer St., Auburn. Burial will follow the service at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Hebron.
