Laurent “Lon” Barriault

Life Story

Laurent “Lon” Barriault, 84, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. Born in Lewiston on August 10, 1928, Lon was the son of Albert and Ludivine Dumont Barriault. Lon graduated from Lewiston High School in 1947, and while there he excelled at basketball, baseball, and tennis. He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge on January 9, 1951. On February 9, 1952, he married the love of his life, the former Jeanette Luce of Auburn, at Ss. Peter & Paul Basilica in Lewiston. In 1953, their son Mark was born, and in 1958 they moved to Guilford, NH, and built The Estate Motel and Cottages on Lake Winnipesaukee.  After operating the motel for ten years, they returned to Lewiston in 1968. Lon and his wife started The Lamplighter Restaurant on Center Street, and purchased Taber’s Lakeside Stand on Lake Shore Drive, both in Auburn. In 1974, Lon and Jeanette ventured to Hollywood, FL. After a few years down south, they moved to Laconia, NH, where they owned and operated The Corner Deli. They finally returned to Lewiston upon their retirement. Lon was a member of the Lewiston Elks Lodge, the American Legion Post 158 of Lisbon, and the Fairlawn Country Club. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved his morning coffee with his friends at Tim Hortons. Lon’s quick wit and humor kept his friends and family forever laughing. Lon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jeanette Barriault of Lewiston, a son, Mark and wife Brenda Lalumiere Barriault, granddaughter Jennifer Barriault and grandson Jason Barriault, all of Portland. Nothing meant more to him than his family, and he will live on through the memories they share.
