Laurent Rene Doyon

Life Story

Laurent Rene Doyon, ”Rene”, 87 years old, of Lewiston, passed away in his home on Sunday, June 28, 2015, due to a heart attack. He was born on November 28, 1927 in Lewiston. He attended Hotel Road Country School, Walton Junior High School, and Edward Little High School all in Auburn, ME. He served in the US Navy from January 1946 – November 1947.  He was a Seaman 1st Class.  He was stationed in Portsmouth, VA., and worked in the radar division aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Mississippi. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the military, he began working at the Hill Mill in Lewiston, ME where he worked as a weaver, loom changer and loom fixer for 17 years.  He then became co-owner of Auburn Fuel Company.  After the sale of the business he worked at Bath Iron Works as a pipe fitter for 10 years. After his retirement, he and his wife, Doriane, whom he married on May 7, 1949, spent the winters in Daytona, Beach FL. for several years. Rene loved to golf, go bowling, play horseshoes and spend time with his family. He is predeceased by his wife Doriane (Poulin) Doyon of Lewiston, ME. He is survived by his sons, Larry Doyon and wife, Sue of Mt Jewett, PA and David Doyon and wife Shay of Pembroke, NH.  He is also survived by his daughter Peg Collier and husband Steve from Ozawkie, KS. He has four brothers: Roger Doyon and George Doyon and the late Albert Doyon, and the late Marcel Doyon.  He is also predeceased by his two sisters Henrietta (Doyon) Poulin and Jane (Doyon) Michaud. He has two granddaughters, one grandson, three great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
