Life Story

Natalie Deane Cohen, 91, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2014, at Clover Health Care in Auburn, where she had been a resident for the past six years. Born in Lewiston on February 4, 1923, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Bertha Drobofski Deane. Natalie was educated in local schools, graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of ’40, and Bliss Business College. She was married to her loving husband William B. Cohen for 47 years, who predeceased her in 1993. Natalie moved to Washington D.C. following her graduation from Bliss Business College and was employed by the U.S. Government in the Department of Agriculture for 4 years prior to returning to Maine and marrying William. A loving and devoted wife and mother, she also was employed by the United Jewish Appeal, Maine Jewish Council, Model Cities Program, and as a legal secretary for many years before retiring. She gained much joy as a volunteer reading to children at the Longley School. Natalie is survived by a son, Michael D. Cohen and wife Terry of Lovell, her grandson, Brandon G. Cohen and wife Morgan, and great-grandson Graham William Cohen all of Gorham. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Michael Deane.
