Robert L. Cloutier

Life Story

Robert L. Cloutier, 90, formerly of Lewiston, died Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Clover Living Center in Auburn, where he had been a resident for the past three years. Born in Auburn on June 3, 1928, he was the son of Ernest and Anna Cloutier. Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’43. A veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Navy on the USS Chicago in the Pacific Theater and Japan. He returned to Lewiston after the war, and on September 2, 1950, he married the former Rita P. Plante. They enjoyed traveling around the country, bowling, and fishing. Mrs. Cloutier passed away on September 14, 1998. Robert worked for many years in the local shoe industry, and later owned and operated Gamache & Lessard window treatments. He was a member of the Jacques Cartier Social Club of Sabattus, New Auburn Seniors and Sabattus Seniors. Survivors include a brother, Raymond and wife Claire of Lewiston, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by three sisters, Jeanne Poulin, Sr. Madeleine Cloutier of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and Theresa Chabot, and a brother, Gerard.
