Violette N. “Vi” Barriault

Life Story

Violette N. “Vi” Barriault, 89, a resident of Schooner Estates, and formerly of 105 Upland Road, Lisbon, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, November 17, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lewiston on October 27, 1924, the daughter of Arthur and Augustine Therriault Nadeau. She was married to Fernand J. Barriault on June 22, 1946, at Holy Family Church in Lewiston. She was a former communicant at SS. Peter & Paul Basilica in Lewiston, and St. Anne’s in Lisbon. Vi graduated from Lewiston High School in 1943, and was a member of the patronesses.  Before becoming the proprietor of her own antique store,“the Whatknot Shop” in Lisbon, she was employed by Ward Brothers in Lewiston and Job Corps in Poland Spring. Vi was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, and enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and neighbors. She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vi enjoyed winters with Fern in Ft. Pierce, FL, and called their farm at “Colonial Acres” in Lisbon home. She also enjoyed spending time at her camp on the ocean. She was a quick wit, and vivacious and spirited personality. Among other things, Vi enjoyed phone calls with her daughter, puzzles, games and cards, and was an exceptional cook. She is survived by her loving husband Fern; sisters, Gloria Landry of Lewiston, Lucille Denis of Lewiston, and Anita Prolejko and husband Robert of Depew, NY; three children, Ronald F. Barriault and partner Michelle of Greenville, Dennis A. Barriault and wife Janet of West Poland, and Louise Barriault-Swank and husband Cliff of Melbourne, FL; five grandchildren, Amy Barriault, Andrea Gouldson, Michael Barriault, Audrey Barriault and Renee Barriault; and four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brienne, Joseph and Liam. She was predeceased by her father in 1993, her mother in 1995, and by her sister Priscilla Goulet of Chicopee, MA. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Schooner Estates Memory Care. Their care has been extraordinary.
